Sunday School
- Sunday school is all new for 2007-2008. Click here- Sunday School Schedule- for this year's schedule for Firelight Rotational Sunday school, sure to be a hit with your children!
- 9:15 - 10:15 a.m. Sundays, 3 year olds through 12th
graders
- We believe Sunday school can be one of the most
memorable and foundational experiences in any child's life.
As passing
on
the faith has become less and less an at-home process,
Sunday school has become more important. We desire all children
to grow in learning the stories of the Bible, learning
faith
rituals
and practices, encountering God in the joy of the Sunday
school setting, and enjoying the great times that come
from making
friends in Sunday school and knowing Sunday school teachers
who may very well be some of the most important mentors
in young persons' lives
- Sunday school is held on Sunday mornings
from 9:15 - 10:15 a.m. Sunday school begins with Rally
Sunday on the Sunday
following
Labor Day each September and runs until the Sunday
before Memorial Day each May. We have Sunday school classes
for all ages from
3 years old through 12th grade
- All children meet with
their classes and teachers each week for a Sunday school
lesson, but also have 15 minutes
of music
in the sanctuary with the Sunday school music director
- Parents are encouraged to join their child periodically
in class, both to experience the special environment
of a Sunday
school class and to assist the teacher
- Sunday school
teachers are sought each summer for the upcoming year.
If you are interested in teaching
or
team-teaching, please call the church office
at 829-9552. No experience
is necessary,
though a desire to be with children, enjoy their
energy and great spirit and share with them the
love and message
of Jesus
is gladly required!
- Classes meet on the first,
second and third floors of the sanctuary building, as well
as in the
youth room
(high
school class)
in the Koinonia building
First Communion - 4th-6th Grades
- Each winter leading
up to Ash Wednesday, First Communion classes are held for
all 4th graders, all 5th graders who
did not take
the class in their 4th grade year, and all 6th graders
who were not present for the class either of the previous
two years
- This class is taught by the pastors and is designed
to
be attended by students and their parent(s). Parents
are encouraged
to
keep an ongoing dialogue with their child at home between
classes during the four-week series so that substantial
learning and
experience can be shared during this very special time
- Holy Communion preparation is meant to be both a very joyful
time for students and families as well as an
important milestone in a student's life of faith.
Here, children
come to a new
point in their faith growth, a point at which they
take hold of their faith "as their own" more
than they ever have before
- This class culminates
in the First Communion experience on Ash Wednesday,
the beginning of Lent, assuming
parents believe
their child to be ready to take this important,
maturing step
On Ash Wednesday, certificates are given to each
student and a class photo is taken to record this
special occassion
in
the life of our church
- Parents should register
their child for the class by calling the church office
as soon after Jan.
1 as they
can -
829-9552.
Additionally, letters are sent to all FLC families
of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, of whom we have
membership records
Confirmation
- Confirmation runs from September 12, 2007 - the last week of April, 2008. Click here for the info you need- Confirmation Schedule
- 6:45 p.m., Wednesdays for 7th, 8th
and 9th graders
- FLC's confirmation program is the major
educational emphasis in a child's life. Weekly classes
over the course of
three years help prepare kids for Affirming their Baptism
on
Confirmation Sunday at the end of their 9th grade
year, one of the key
milestones and foundational moments in all kids'
lives
- The program involves large-group class sessions taught
by the pastors and centered around a multimedia
approach to
instruction.
Large group sessions involve Biblical study,
prayer, small group discussions, interactive questions-and-answers
and
skits
- Each student is placed in a small group
of same-year students, led by an adult parent mentor. All
groups are made up of
5-8 students. Small groups work together during
class discussion times, as well as share in
service and fellowship
events
- Certain confirmation nights are devoted
to service projects and fun fellowship. This emphasis
helps
kids know that
their learning and growth in faith also occurs
in hands-on serving
and celebrating. Service projects are sought
that fulfill a need in our Brainerd Lakes
Area and bring
a fulfilling,
outreaching
experience to confirmation students
- Confirmation
begins on the Wednesday of the first full week of school
in September and
ends on
the last Wednesday
of
April. Confirmation Sunday for 9th graders
and their families is scheduled
on either the last Sunday in April or the
first Sunday in May
- A special time during
the confirmation year happens in Lent when each student
chooses
an adult mentor
with whom
to have
faith conversation after each midweek
Lenten service. Great intergenerational relationships
have been
forged over the
years through this wonderful activity
Youth Group -
High School Kids
- This group is for 9th - 12th graders and
meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 or so
- The group
is casual. It knows what "hangin' out" really
means. It is together for the friendship of it
all. It is also together because mission trips and National
Youth Gatherings
have solidified these kids friendships
- Lori Hall,
the youth director, tries to give a
little direction to this group, but in between
the devos and
other faith
talk, this group simply creates a lot of fun together
- All high schoolers are welcome!
Youth Group - JP Kids
- This group is for 4th-6th graders. It
is an "entry-level" youth
group that meets twice monthly on Wednesday
evenings from
6:45-8:15 p.m.
- They do crafts, play games, watch movies
and do service projects to begin the process of learning
what a youth group is all about
- This group is parent-led
- Watch bulletins and newsletters
for info!
Youth Group - Kings
Kids
- This group is for 1st-3rd graders
- Kings Kids is focused
around a monthly activity and devotions. It is designed
to provide fellowship,
a place for friendships
to be found and grow and a place where faith
rituals like learning how to pray at mealtime or leaning
to pray after
a devotion
can be emphasized
- This group is parent-led
and is advertised in Sunday bulletins and monthly newsletters
