The life of our church is found in the sharing of our ministries:
serving, reaching out, rejoicing and learning together.

Adult Education - Bible Study

  • Tuesday evenings, 7 - 8:15 p.m. and Wednesday mornings, 9:15 - 10:30 a.m.
  • The first prong of our First Lutheran mission statement is centered on Learning the Faith
  • Bible study needs to be at the heart of disciples who are growing in their faith. Seeking new knowledge through hearing, studying and discussing God's Word is central to our ministry at First Lutheran so that we can grow in faith and in the knowledge of God's grace
  • During the school year, an adult Bible study series is on the calendar most weeks. Most often, studies focus on one book of the Bible and last between 6 and 10 weeks. Periodically, a topical study is held - i.e. a recent timely study on Islam
  • Most often, a charge of $5 or less per Bible study series is invited to help defray some of the cost of materials. As always, if a cost is not affordable, one is not required to pay it. We do not want there to be any barriers to folks participating in Bible studies
  • Bible studies are led by the pastors and are advertised in weekly worship bulletins and the monthly newsletter

Sunday Adult Enrichment Forum

  • Click here for Fall 2007 schedule - Adult Enrichment Schedule
  • 9:20-10:15 a.m. in the Upper Room, mezzanine level of Koinonia building
  • During the hour between Sunday services, an educational forum for adults is held. This is a somewhat new tradition at First Lutheran. Usually focused on a timely topic or on Lutheran theological themes, this class is meant to stimulate faith growth and a faith perspective growing out of one's daily life experiences
  • The setting is casual, so grabbing a cup of coffee in Koinonia before coming up for the forum is not only permissable, it is expected!

First Fellowship

  • First Fellowship is "the fun group," as group members proudly call themselves. First Fellowship are events on FLC's yearly calendar that involve laughter, sports or recreation, eating, fun, going out, did we mention eating?, and a great time
  • FF events include a spring and fall golf outing, one or two progressive dinners, game nights, movie and dessert, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, bowling and often a bonfire on the beach at someone's home
  • First Fellowship events are always advertised in the weekly worship bulletins, the monthly newsletter and on the sign-up tables in the lobbies

Intercessory Prayer Group

  • This group meets weekly at noon on Fridays for an hour of discussion, Scripture reading and prayer
  • The group also assigns one person to be in the prayer chapel from 7:30 - 8 a.m.on Sunday mornings to pray for morning worship, the day's message, congregational activities, petitions that have been submitted that week and the needs of people at FLC and in our community
  • To join this group, come any Friday at noon and/or call the church office

Worship Video Taping Ministry

  • One Sunday worship service each week is video taped for playback on local cable Channel 8
  • This ministry is open to anyone who has a knowledge of video taping or technology and is interested in helping this great evangelism tool grow! If you are confirmation age or older, youth or adult, you are eligible
  • Tom Frid and Craig Tusler oversee the Video Team. You can join or ask questions of them by calling the church office, 829-9552

Saturday AM AA Group

  • Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in the lounge (2nd level, Sanctuary building), a non-smoking AA group meets year-round
  • We believe strongly in the effectiveness of recovery groups and ministries
  • This small group is faithful in following the 12 Steps and is an unintimidating group
  • Enter the church through the 8th St. door on Saturdays for this group

Senior Adult Activities

  • Senior Adult activities are held periodically that aim to provide fellowship, learning and fun for FLC's age 55+ members
  • Events include bus day trips, potlucks with a speaker, ice fishing with the men's Sonrise group, and other times of fellowship and excitement
  • Information can be found in Sunday bulletins and the monthly newsletter
